<p>INT.THE DINNING ROOM WITH A WINDOW &#8211; DAY</p>
<p>ULU (V.O.)<br />
I have a mission. The world is in<br />
danger already. Because my<br />
pornographic imagination is growing<br />
out of control like a plague. It&#8217;s<br />
only a matter of time I destroy<br />

<p>The room is setup for the actors audition.</p>
<p>Ulu explains the roles in this screenplay to the players of<br />
Disciples 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The players become more<br />
baffled, as Ulu explains further.</p>
<p>Ulu stands up and gets them in tableaux reminiscences of the<br />
previously filmed sequences.</p>
<p>They read from the scripts and attempt to act the scenes.</p>
<p>This exercise looks futile, awkward and absurd, because<br />
everybody takes and does everything literally.</p>
<p>Disciple 1 thinks that Ulu&#8217;s film text is not only sexist,<br />
but also a great insult to the Filipino women. She doubts<br />
his intentions in making this film. She thinks that Ulu has<br />
a serious King Kong Complex.</p>
<p>Disciple 2 feels that she should play her role like a drag<br />
king. She thinks that there is a lack of representation of<br />
the drag king in cinema. But she doubts Ulu knows how to<br />
make it right as a screenwriter and director.</p>
<p>Disciple 3 is sick and tired of the victimized Filipina<br />
persona. It is worse when she can saved by nothing but<br />
sex. And worst, sex has been reduced to an object through<br />
some panties fetish.</p>
<p>Disciple 4 loves being sexy. But she is not sure how will<br />
the local arts and social communities perceive her when this<br />
film is out. She fears that if she goes all the way for her<br />

do more to explore deeper. She wants more scenes of them<br />
doing more exercises. They must all be willing to go deeper<br />
than their literal interpretation of the text. Bottom line,<br />
everyone is too self-protective. There is no way for inner<br />
truth to surface if we keep masking ourselves with all our<br />
own reasons.</p>

Bakaman dies for the sins of his people like Neo (on behalf of Zion &amp; humanity) trying to make it up to The Machines (the Other).</p>
<p>Producer says they can replace all the “wire-fu”, high tech gizmo and visual effects with their true blue Pinoy “bombastic” power.</p>
<p>Director is weary of all the bombas films he had done for Producer. He wonders if they can try something new and less exploitative.</p>
<p>Producer wants Director to see this Bakaman movie as a form of &#8216;holy prostitution&#8217;.</p>

<p>Director and Writer go thru various philosophies, mythology, popular culture, and eccetera to find the right phrase and/or words to describe the function/quest/mission of Bakaman.</p>
<p>What can he do or achieve with this power? Read the thoughts and hear the voices of a person. A form of &#8220;schizo-analysis&#8221; (Deleuze/Guattari)? Truth seeking? Perhaps more chaos than before. But it seems like an invitation to a world of possibilities. If Bakaman can stay sane straddling with all the information overloading his mind, he can even assume his sexual partner&#8217;s personality and maximise the true potential in her &#8220;soul&#8221;.</p>

<p>Writer questions the binary tendency in Director&#8217;s thinking. What&#8217;s wrong with The Flesh? She feels that sensuality is also a celebration of The Spirit.</p>

<p>1. Black Space. Timeless.</p>
<p>Minah Kueh is tipsy. Temporal freedom from negative emotions and thoughts. The spirit at ease with the flesh.</p>
<p>Hailey Chow saves Minah from falling flat on her face.</p>
<p>Minah can&#8217;t help falling over Hailey&#8217;s arm, thigh, leg, chest, shoulder, back, head, neck, face.</p>
<p>Sometimes after the fall, there comes a pause with the right tension and beautiful posture.</p>
<p>Awkward. Sensuous. Hungry. Lonely. Aggressive. Hopeless. Silence. Meditative. Impish. Bitchy. Cynical. Despair. Angry. Ferocious. But never really hysterical or mad at times. But what is sanity?</p>
<p>2. Park beside MRT exit. Night.</p>
<p>Hailey walks with Ulu in the park as Wondergal. They have a child like exchange of words and improvised actions, movements, and happenings. Talk talk talk. Make believe with the ginger plant, street lights, lamp posts, tree, branches and leaves in the shade. A dark womb of mother nature.</p>
<p>3. Classroom 2 at The Substation. Twilight.</p>
<p>Ulu uses anger and delirium like he is annihilating the text he reads, yells, mumbles, rants, ridicules, blares, and gibber from the black journal in his hands. He fights himself and wrestles with the empty seats and tables.</p>
<p>4. Park beside MRT exit. Night.</p>
<p>Hailey-Wondergal walks with Ulu. But Ulu doesn&#8217;t speak anymore.</p>
<p>Ulu produces a pathetic hymn of shrieks, wails and groans, as his body/flesh fails him.</p>
<p>Wondergal tries to help Ulu, but he just wants to fall apart.</p>
<p>5. Hailey encounters Minah on a quiet road. Day.</p>
<p>The black &amp; white house in Sembawang?</p>
<p>The hill beside Jalan Sendudok leading to the woods that stand beside a land in preliminary stage of urban development?</p>
<p>They walk through the last traces of woods.</p>
<p>They talk serenely to each other occasionally.</p>
<p>Beauty. Nature. Sunlight. Calmness. Minah in sarong kebaya.</p>
<p>Minah leads Hailey to a secluded corner in the woods.</p>
<p>Minah places her hand softly on Hailey&#8217;s heart.</p>
<p>Hailey stops.</p>
<p>Minah uses the same hand to draw something in the air.</p>
<p>6. Hailey is drawing alone in a musty room. Day.</p>
<p>The more Hailey draws, the further she is drawn into the flashes in her mind.</p>
<p>The cut out of celebrity&#8217;s faces and figures from magazines and newspapers in Hai Leong&#8217;s bag. “body parts”</p>
<p>Layers and pieces of magazine cut out are clouding Hailey&#8217;s vision.</p>
<p>An improvised performance of panic attack changes into heart seizure.</p>
<p>7. Unknown space.  Unknown time.</p>
<p>Ulu grows maniac.</p>
<p>Ulu makes several failed attempts to inflict physical harm on Hailey. He is mad with her existence. But his aggression can never touch her. The more he wants to kill her, the more he wants to kill himself.</p>
<p>8.  Unknown space.  Unknown time.</p>
<p>Wondergal is fighting the spasm.</p>
<p>The seizure never seem to kill her.</p>
<p>It recurs to torture her body and spirit relentlessly.</p>
<p>It comes in moment of cold sweat and dizzy spells;</p>
<p>moments of collapse and coma;</p>
<p>briefly followed by a jolt of life force fuelled by piercing pain and anguish.</p>
<p>It is so unbearable that the tension in Wondergal&#8217;s hand tears a hole in her costume. This agony continues until Wondergal stands up as Schizo Hailey.</p>
<p>9.  Unknown space.  Unknown time.</p>
<p>Minah is falling over nobody in the musty room. Sometimes she struts with the tension and posture of a female stud. Sometimes she swings like an animal in heat. Perspiration. The flesh, spirit, and sarong kebaya are one exquisite beast.</p>
<p>10.  Unknown space.  Unknown time.</p>
<p>Schizo Hailey appears in an executive suit.</p>
<p>Minah is drunk on the couch. Hailey is attending to her like a psychotherapist.</p>
<p>Minah&#8217;s sarong kebaya is all wet and tainted with earth.</p>
<p>Hailey brings out a bottle of wine and starts pouring it onto Minah&#8217;s lips like a necessary elixir.</p>
<p>Hailey places her palm on Minah&#8217;s forehead. She feels like a priestess from the wilderness. She caresses Minah&#8217;s belly like a parent to the baby. The Wine Ritual.. Dionysian.. ecstatic frenzy</p>
<p>Cut.</p>
<p>Break time. Minah-Actress smokes a cigarette. She remains seated while her make-up artist works on her face and body to produce the look of The Dark One.</p>
<p>Certain features on Hailey-Actress&#8217;s face are enhanced to create a more sinister look inspired by the Japanese theatrical masks of ancient evil spirit.</p>
<p>Ulu-Actor exchanges energy of the killer/suicide angst with Minah-Actress and Hailey-Actress.</p>
<p>Camera rolling.</p>
<p>Minah rises from the Schizo Hailey&#8217;s couch of The Wine Ritual. Minah is the Dark One now. She initiates Hailey into the variations on movements from Scene 1. They fall, twist, pull, stretch, jerk, strut, fall, writhe and wrestle in quick succession of union and incongruence. This is the personification of the becoming of greed, aversion and delusion.</p>
<p>Translucent fabrics grows from Ulu like he is cutting and spilling his guts in a Harakiri.</p>
<p>Minah and Hailey tussle with Ulu in the translucent fabrics.</p>
<p>Ripping fabrics. Minah and Hailey reach a state of ecstasy.</p>
<p>Ulu is gone.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>after much reflection on Ron&#8217;s journey, i begin to question what is Lesser all about? why have i been doing Lesser? why even call it Lesser?</p>
<p>as some of you here might know, Lesser started because i was trying to deal with the bitterness of my personal failures in making a mark as a narrative filmmaker. then later it became an acceptance of my creative idiosyncrasies.</p>
<p>recently Lesser has become a reflection of my personal shortcoming &#8212; obsessive compulsions; a better word for this shall be impatience. but i must almost admit that the colors &amp; strength of my past works are also a result of this little insanity of mine. but it ails badly when i fail to switch off the &#8216;Work&#8217; button.</p>
<p>bcoz like many of us here, work-life-art-fun have always been one. and really really really, at the end of the day it IS NOT about getting it out of the system. because the more you think you&#8217;re the master of your universe, the more painful it would become the next orbit. some people choose religion to cut this suffering, while others choose worldly ways for escape or anesthesia.</p>
<p>due to my obsessions with sensuality &amp; the grotesque, some observers wonder why i don&#8217;t just buy some sex to shoot porn and/or fuck myself good. i keep my mind open about this one, always. it&#8217;s easy to say yes or no. even if it&#8217;s a &#8220;girlfriend experience&#8221; kinda sex with a sex worker or porno talent, it would never satisfy the notions of Lesser.</p>
<p>Lesser is neither repression nor indulgence. some may see a whore as just a whore. Lesser sees great possibilities in this whore. Lesser believes this whore is capable of the performance of truth &amp; believability. Lesser believes the matrix of genre filmmaking is the only obstacle to the unique move/rhythm/breath/voice within each of us. sometimes it comes thru one haiku, poem, song, verses, novel, play, dance, performance, video, film, painting, picture, sketching, or even just one look thru the eyes from the corner of the bar. we can connect with another thru our own unique way.</p>
<p>if there must be a metric for this, Lesser suggests the seeker to find it in any: doze, wake, smirk, grin, scorn, laugh, yell, swear, cry, weep, pat, fist, stroke, shake, push, pull, or any other gesture of the moment, when there is no need to prove you&#8217;re good. ONLY ONE GESTURE. Lesser sees all workings as more than good enough. Lesser also welcomes reply such as, &#8220;WHAT THE FUCK?!&#8221;</p>
<p>uLu enters &amp; slaps the back of my head right after the last paragraph. he pulls a plastic cover over me like a doll. he is hammering me now. oouch.. sorry for the disturbance folks. uLu pins my other cheek to the monitor playing this clip</p>

<p>what is lesser?</p>
<p>I dare not say that my personal works are attempts to confront some great inner truths. But they never fail to drive people away. it is cursed to die the moment the viewers lend their generous eyes and ears to witness my creative journey. The requiem to each death is usually a silent one. The imaginary music, verses, singing and wordless chorus are like the reflection of a tiny blue moon in my toilet bowl.</p>
<p>Lesser is a snap shot of this blue moon. It is not much of an art piece. It does not go well with generic classification (so we can perhaps drop Conceptual and Relational too). It does not try to be clever, and many times it can be guilty of depriving the viewers room to have intellectual reflection on its becoming. Furthermore it lacks ocular satisfaction.</p>
<p>Lesser is a form of denial. A highly opinionated and/or judgmental viewer can be annoyed/offended/averted by it&#8217;s happening. This is only natural because most creative people love to declare their stand clearly. Even fuzzy thinking has a profitable technological standing. If pornography means sexual titillation, Lesser shall deprive the porn viewers from generic satisfaction. If a blockbuster movie means cinema of attractions, the spectators shall experience the torturous wonders of a Lesser work, being at ease with poor production values that also fail to comply with the entertaining framework of a B-movie. If an art film is a vigorous cinematic exploration of aesthetics and/or expression of humanity, then we shall see a romance between two sexually ambiguous aliens played by physically unattractive live actors with unconvincing makeup, no art direction and no special/visual effects.</p>
<p>Lesser can be seen merely as an alien life form. There is nothing right or wrong about the investigation of the unknown. It is the bemusement/frustration/fear of the unknown that comes along the way that put the viewer off. It tends to prove our eternal need to make whatever sense out of whatever things that come along the way.</p>
<p>Lesser can become like an anger management program. Thru personal observations of the loathing in our society, a Lesser work can help the observer come closer to his/her true nature.</p>

<p>remember when u begin to feel shy about mummy &amp; daddy<br />
looking at you while you&#8217;re making poop poop?<br />
you close the toilet door &amp; shut us out<br />
for the first time.</p>
<p>sometimes you also play &amp; make jokes<br />
with your so called cuckold bird in shower</p>
<p>you are our sweet little prince.<br />
in your world there is no shame.<br />
but we build the pride in your heart as each days go by<br />
thinking that we shall make you stronger</p>
<p>and now i see you forming opinions about things.<br />
you know what you want, it seems.</p>
<p>and i look at myself,<br />
i don&#8217;t feel i know it all<br />
as i grow older each day.</p>
<p>maybe that is why i fail as a filmmaker.<br />
because i don&#8217;t worry so much about the things appearing in the shot.<br />
i&#8217;m tasteless in terms of design &amp; art perhaps.<br />
i enjoy being on the go with the talents.<br />
but i&#8217;m not a good director too<br />
because i spend too much time<br />
maintaining a spiritual relationship with my talents.</p>
<p>so some critic will say i&#8217;m not pushing the actors<br />
hard/far enough.<br />
worse, they think i can&#8217;t see what makes a good performance.<br />
so who&#8217;s gonna watch a film that has no artistic visuals &amp; powerful acting?</p>
<p>i resign from filmmaking.</p>
<p>then i thought of porn, because my best friend<br />
Lee Duah Chong came up to me with this<br />
Daddy GuGu persona..</p>
<p>doesn&#8217;t matter it&#8217;s porn or not.<br />
it&#8217;s all about human interaction on &amp; off screen<br />
which is the most important thing.</p>

<p>i always fear that i am actually not good enough<br />

or we suffer the consequences of our indulgence.</p>

neither repress nor indulge.<br />
accept the existence of the present conditions, but never react to them<br />
with desire/aversion/delusion.</p>
<p>simple as it is said<br />
but how in the real world of demand &amp; supply<br />
